Web Design and Programming

Since 1996 I've tackled numerous design and programming projects, and I've taught hundreds of students skills such as HTML, CSS, Flash Actionscript, PHP/MySQL, XML, Javascript and Python at The Art Institute of Portland.

I'm more on the programming side than the design side, but in a pinch I can handle almost anything you might need. My specialties are Drupal (Theming & Module development), and Object Oriented PHP programming. I live and work just outside Portland, Oregon.

Professional Experience

2007-Present
Wheelercreek Studio, Inc.
Independent PHP/MySQL Web Developer, in connection with Gravitate Design Studio and Cosmonaut Creative Media. Most of my work has been programming eCommerce applications for their several clients, and lately I have been focused on building custom Drupal sites, and custom Drupal module development.

2006-2007
Interactive Director, Gravitate Web Design. PHP web development, Drupal, Wordpress, CSS, XHTML, and Flash Actionscript programming.

2000-Present
Faculty Member,The Art Institute of Portland. Visit my teaching page to see what I'm currently teaching, and subjects I have covered in past courses.

2000-2001
Corporate Web Manager, C-Tech Industries. Designed and developed a number of database driven corporate sites for their various manufacturing brands. These database-driven sites were built using classic ASP.

1996-1999
3D Artist & Webmaster, Zygote Media Group. I started off in the 3D industry, doing modeling and texture mapping at Zygote. I managed a team of 3D modelers, and helped to build the realistic models in Poser 4. I also created and managed the company website.

thomas wheeler

Tom Wheeler is a local Oregon & Washington PHP Drupal programmer and designer with over 15 years web programming experience. He specializes in custom Drupal Module development, Drupal theming with CSS, and Drupal programming. Tom is a Portland Drupal Developer, and has taught college courses in PHP, MySQL and Drupal development at The Art Institute of Portland.
